  I took my 11 year old cat in today to have him euthanized. I thought this was the right thing to do and would be peaceful for him. When the vets took him away to stick in the catheter, etc, my cat screamed like I had never heard before. I went to the window to look in the back room and all the techs were laughing it up about something presumably unrelated and holding him like an item AROUND his neck to keep him at bay. An uninvolved tech walked by, saw me, walked to the table and whispered into each of their ears. All the sudden their faces turned concerned and they began to stroke my cat like...well: like he was a living being that was dying and in his last minutes on this planet. It was the most awful thing to witness. I was so angry that I couldn't even properly grieve- I just wanted to get out of there. They ruined the entire experience for my poor cat and for me. I will never erase the image of them all chuckling while my cat screamed and they held their had around his neck. Scarred.
